The book starts out with 16 year old Miranda Evans getting a phone call from her father, Hal, that his new wife, Lisa, is pregnant with her first child. Her Dad is overjoyed, and the two of them give Miranda the offer of being the godmother. Later, an asteroid crashes into the moon, bringing it closer to the Earth, and from there the world descends into chaos.
